From a variety standpoint, I'll focus on Brandwine, a Yellow variety like the Old German, Big Boy, and Celebrity. The Rutgers and Pic Red were too small, and the Beefstake were a complete failure. The Purple Cherokee were also disappointing producers and so were the Pinapple. The Old German were very late and not productive, but they were nice tomatoes and maybe I just had a slow one.
I will definitely trellis again, this time with Brandywine and Old German. I don't think the trellis made the tomatoes bigger, but I do think the ripened earlier. The trellis will need to be reinforced across the top, because it looks like it is ready to break. I will support the rest with PVC cages, because the staking and Florida Weave were not effective. I think I should try to "trellis" an Heirloom on a PVC cage by allowing only 4 runners, one for each leg of the cage. I'm also going to move the trellis back toward the water and divvy up the extra room and space between the rows.
I will need to put the cherry tomatoes at the back of a row beside the fence so they don't take up too much room. I'd also like to find a yellow cherry to give a little variety, since my the middle of the summer, you get tons of these.
